Landscape Design
Three reasons to select a landscape professional:

  •   Landscaping your home can increase its value by 10%

  • Realtors report lack of landscaping or poor landscaping is  one of the  main
reasons prospective homeowners declined to purchase a home.

  • Properly selected plants will thrive here in Connecticut and they don’t need
    constant maintenance.

We are a residential landscape design organization located in Newtown, Connecticut,
we would like to help you create a unique landscape to meet your needs.  Our service
areas are Fairfield and Litchfield Counties.

Our landscape designer Brid Craddock holds a degree in Interior Design; certificates
in Horticulture and Landscape Design;  and is registered through the University of
Connecticut as a Connecticut Master Gardener.  She is also an instructor at The New
York Botanical Garden and a speaker at various Garden Clubs.

Our Philosophy:
Landscape design in a process of integrating the functional needs and aesthetic
desires of the homeowner with cost efficient, site appropriate plantings and
hardscapes.  It is our philosophy a design is successful when it highlights the home
with beauty, creating a sense of place and integrating the property into the
neighborhood and open space.

We create functional landscapes tailored to the needs of our clients, this may mean
an easy-care landscape, a wildlife garden, a child's play area, a private entertainment
area; addressing sites with wet soil, dry shade, slopes, or as is often the case
integrating all of these functions into one unified landscape.

Landscape design is a collaborative process, we invite you to contact us and share
your insights, we'd enjoy working together.

The Design Process:
Initial Consultation:
We begin by meeting with homeowners for a free one hour consultation, we will
discuss design possibilities, site conditions, budget and design goals.

Needs Assessment
After our initial consultation and we have contractually agreed to prepare design
documents, our first step is to determine the homeowners needs.  We can discuss
potential uses of the landscape, overall budget, curb appeal, entertaining areas,
sports activities, pet areas, storage areas and of course gardens.  We determine if the
entire property is to be landscaped or if we will only be working on a portion or
perhaps just adding a specific garden bed, such as a butterfly garden or an English
Garden. We can help you with large or small projects.

Site Assessment
Investigating the site is critical to the success of our landscape design, we will collect
measurements and assess the condition and location of many of your sites attributes
including:

  • Existing hardscapes such as driveways, patios, decks, arbors, porches, water
    features, walkways, fences, walls, etceteras.
  • Existing utility locations
  • Existing plants and trees
  • Soil conditions
  • Light conditions
  • Zoning requirements and restrictions
  • Neighborhood Covenants

The site assessment insures you will be satisfied with your design plan now and in
the future.  It is a requirement if the entire property is to be landscaped, when working
on a portion of the landscape we will assess that area only.

Design Sketch
With the homeowners input we create a modified digital photo of the home
incorporating plantings and hardscapes to meet your needs.  This is a wonderful way
to visualize your home with its new landscape.  Together we create a Design Program
deciding on which design alternatives work best and from this we proceed to create
Plan Drawings.

Plan Drawings
The plan drawings show the location of your home, hardscapes and the proposed
new plantings.  These plans enable you to install your landscape all at once or for
budget reasons over a period of time.  These plans can be used by reputable
landscapers to install the plantings and hardscapes.  Plan drawings are done for the
entire property and for small jobs as well.

Plant and Materials List
This is complete list of all proposed plant and hardscaping materials.  It indicates the
location of the material on the plan, the scientific and common name of plants, and
the quantity of each plant and material to be used.  This combined with the Plan
Drawing become documents landscapers use to successfully plant and install your
new landscape.

Installation
We work with several reputable landscape contracting firms who will provide quotes
for the proposed work.  We would be pleased to work with your landscaper as well.
